We talked to our customers, listened to their needs and played a positive role in our communities during 2010-11.
We teamed up with councils across Sussex, Kent and Hampshire to co-ordinate the installation of new water meters with their highways maintenance departments and avoid digging up pavements after they were resurfaced.
We opened a visitors’ centre in Ovingdean, near Brighton, to provide information on our £300 million environmental improvement scheme to bring cleaner seas to Sussex. The centre gives residents the opportunity to meet members of the team and there is also a Community Liaison Group, quarterly newsletter and dedicated website.
A scheme to help prevent Portsmouth from flooding was recognised in the Considerate Constructors National Site Awards 2010. Judges said the site of the project to build an underground pumping station at Eastney reached particularly high standards in cleanliness, health and safety, environmental care and consideration to neighbours.
We supported players at Rye Football Club in East Sussex after arsonists destroyed their pavilion. We provided temporary buildings to give the team somewhere to change and shower until their pavilion was rebuilt.
We also worked with our contractors to improve the signs we put up on barriers and hoardings to give our customers more information about our work.
