We joined the Carbon Reduction Commitment energy efficiency scheme in which we are ranked against other companies for our carbon emissions.

Seventy per cent of our carbon footprint is associated with electricity used to pump and treat drinking water and wastewater.

We developed a Company Carbon Standard for our contractors to measure the carbon impact of their work and help us make decisions about future investment.

We emitted 287 kilotonnes of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, equivalent to more than 10,600 heavy goods vehicles on the road.

Carbon strategy

We produced a report on how we plan to adapt to the impacts of climate change on our water supply and wastewater infrastructure.

The Climate Change Adaptation Report looks at how changes in seasonal and annual rainfall could affect water resources and how changes in rainfall patterns could lead to increased flooding.

The report also considers how a rise in sea level could increase the risk of flooding in tidal areas and high groundwater levels as well as how water resources could be affected if saline water enters aquifers.

We worked with a number of agencies to gather information for the report, including the Met Office, UK Climate Impacts Programme and the Water UK Climate Change Network.
