Children learning to swim

Why we do it

Drowning is the third most common cause of accidental death among children under 16, claiming about 50 lives each year.

Although swimming lessons are part of the National Curriculum, poor facilities, lack of funds and pressure on curriculum time leave many schools struggling to provide swimming lessons.

With a 700-mile stretch of coastline bordering our region, and many more miles of rivers and streams, we believe it is appropriate for a water company to help teach children to swim.
