Medway Mile: A record-breaking year for the Olympic Countdown event!
More than two thousand runners of all ages and abilities lined up to take part in the 2011 Southern Water Medway Mile. The race around the historic streets of Rochester is Medway’s unique countdown to the 2012 Olympics.
Wearing Southern Water t-shirts in red, green, yellow, black and blue – the colours of the Olympic rings - the runners flocked to the Castle Gardens for entertainment and a spectacular fireworks display.
Gillingham and Rainham MP Rehman Chishti started the children’s race and then took part in the main event himself posting a very respectable time and finishing in the top five. The Mayor of Medway, a veteran of the event completed the course in time to hand out the medals.
Thirsty runners were rewarded with a Southern Water bottle. Our Water Café team gave out a record number of bottles and the all important hydration messages.
